Traditional, rustic, modern, and coastal—these are all the types of styles that embody the McGee & Co. brand. The submissions in our latest design challenge with them showed exactly that. The prompt for this challenge was to design a relaxed and elevated space with at least 5 McGee & Co. pieces. And there was one submission that truly blew everyone away. It’s the one pictured above here, and it was designed by Abby Starobin. This room is the definition of relaxed and elevated.
We chatted with Abby to hear more about her design journey and the inspiration for her design. We hope you enjoy it!
I’ve always been a creative and have dabbled in different areas of design. I used to move a lot (still do!) so I learned the importance of having a home that felt comfortable. Being able to decorate and personalize each new space helped foster my love of interior design. But it was only a couple of years ago that I decided to take that passion seriously.
In my own home, I like to play with a lot of colors and patterns. But it’s fun to work on spaces that aren’t your own because you can try different styles. Lately, I’ve been loving using black, minimal color, and organic shapes. McGee & Co. has great pieces that are both modern and traditional, so I leaned into that as well.
Viz is honestly a lifesaver. I was able to easily select the items I wanted to use directly in Spoak’s database, which really streamlines the whole design process. It’s like a combo of Photoshop and Pinterest. There’s nothing like it.
Luckily I move in a few days, so definitely something pretty for my new digs!!
