Sofas are a huge investment of money and time. Think back to when you were deciding which sofa to buy- kind of a stressful decision, right? Once you’ve made the decision and invested the money, you also want it to last! But what do you do when you’re sick of the color, or the fabric starts wearing down from your cat making too many loaves of bread on the corner pieces? This is where Comfort Works comes in.
Comfort Works came up with the genius idea of keeping that sofa you may be bored of, and swapping out the frame and cushion covers for a different color or fabric (aka basically getting a like-new-sofa). Yes, this means your sofa can literally have different outfits for different seasons. Let me tell you why I love this idea so much.
Sustainability. In an effort to cut down on product waste, consider not scrapping a perfectly fine couch just because of its current fabric situation. Especially if it’s still in functional condition (i.e. the inner cushions and the structure are just fine!). You can change the look of your sofa, without contributing to your local junk-yard-furniture-pile.
Style. Have you ever met the perfect size Ikea couch that you’re forced to buy in navy blue? Same. This might be my favorite reason Comfort Works exists. You can customize a basic sofa with luxury peach velvet fabric, if your heart so desires.
$$$. $400 on custom sofa covers or $2000 on a new couch when you don’t actually need one? This is a no brainer. According to girl math, you can now buy that new rug or piece of art you’ve been eyeing basically for free with the money you’ve saved. ;)
Versatility. If you’re anything like me, you’re always rearranging and styling your furniture and decor in new ways. There is something so satisfying about a space you spend a ton of time in, all of a sudden feeling like a new space. I dream of having multiple covers from Comfort Works and transforming my living room every time I have the smallest craving for a design change. Imagine your couch literally having its own wardrobe!
Longevity. Comfort Works has super durable stain and scratch resistant fabric options. Replacing the covers on your sofa will extend its lifetime over and over again (and I also have a feeling your Comfort Works covers will last longer than the original couch fabric!).
Less Stress. Knowing that your sofa has stain resistant and scratch resistant fabric just puts the lounging soul at ease (time to eat chocolate ice cream on the couch with my dog).
I wasn’t a hard sell on sofa covers, as you can tell from my above reasoning. I received my covers last week, and here is what I learned:
Have I convinced you yet that sofa covers are the way to go? Great. Here’s how the design process goes with Comfort Works:
First, search for your sofa brand and model on the Comfort Works site. They have cushion measurements for brands like Ikea, Article, West Elm, and Pottery Barn, just to name a few. If you’re not seeing your specific sofa model on their site, you can send over measurements and they’ll whip up something custom for you.
Next, order your fabric swatches (this is my favorite part!). I love feeling the fabrics and playing with the colors in my space. They have the whole range of options from linens and cottons to Sunbrella and velvets. No boring sofas here!
They’ll ship you your washable, zip-on sofa covers and all you’ll need to do is swap them out and enjoy your (basically-brand-new-looking) sofa.
Check out their website and start on your sofa refresh journey.
