Top things to know about how to plan your wedding using an interior design software:

  • Before you begin, you need to cultivate your aesthetic and make a mood board.
  • Visualize your wedding plans
  • Set the Table Scene
  • Last but not least, make those decisions!

When my friends ask me what my secret to wedding planning is, my answer is simple: Spoak. In response, I always get several questions. “Spoak? The design platform? How do interior design tools help you plan a wedding?” All valid questions! It’s hard to wrap my head around one answer to this because Spoak brings so much to the table. It lets you create mood boards, design mockups, visualize different decor combinations, and create floor plans to optimize the best layout for your space—just to list a few possibilities. When you think about it, these capabilities can easily be transferred over to help with event planning. And if there’s one thing I’m sure of, it’s that event planning (aka planning my wedding) has absolutely consumed my mind, body, and soul lately. While I’m in no unique position there, I do have an advantage that not every bride has… Spoak!

So, my fellow brides, party planners, and best friends who just so happen to currently be planning a Bachelorette trip for their bestie (good luck), allow me to show you how I’ve been using Spoak for all of my wedding organization and aesthetic needs.

Cultivate your aesthetic and make a mood board.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always had a pretty good idea of what vibe I wanted for my wedding. My dream is a pink, gold, and ivory french-inspired garden wedding. Pink has always been my favorite color—can you blame me? It’s a great color! The first step in any design process is the easiest and maybe the most obvious one: Make a mood board. Spoak makes this so easy and fun. They even have pre-designed templates for you to upload and drop your photos in. Once everything is uploaded and in the right place, your vibe will be set! My mood board is pictured below. Isn’t it cute?

Visualize your wedding plans and then bring them to life.

After my mood board was done, I could see the general feel I wanted for my wedding. It was now time to narrow down the search for venues! You know that TikTok sound that goes “it’s about grind, it’s about power, we stay hungry, we devour”? Yeah, that’s pretty much what was playing on repeat in my head. COVID pushed thousands of 2020 and 2021 weddings back to 2022, so you can only imagine how fierce the competition was out there. After touring venues in Houston and Austin, we decided on the Woodbine Mansion, slightly north of Austin. Now, I know what you may be thinking: Texas probably has tons of country farmhouse venues (they do)—and while there was nothing wrong with them, they just weren’t my particular style! I like to consider the Woodbine Mansion traditional with a touch of french elegance. I pulled the elements I loved the most about this venue and made it my own in many ways.

As you’ve already seen in my mood board, it’s florals on florals on florals. For the ceremony, there are floral arrangements lining the aisle, flowers wrapped around the two main center columns, candles on the steps, and lastly, a white aisle runner to cover the brick cobblestone. The cobblestone didn’t really match our color scheme, so I had to get creative! Being able to bring my vision from scattered ideas inside my head, to something that actually made sense in Viz had settled my anxiety tremendously. No big deal, Viz over here just saving lives!

Time to set the table scene.

Next on the agenda were the table settings—and in case you were wondering, yes… you can also design tablescapes in Viz! I knew I wanted to carry through my color palette and go with shades of pinks and whites in organic floral arrangements. Silk ivory tablecloths and gold, white, and pink china, you get it. Viz made this process so easy creatively, but also financially! Spoak’s interior design tooling allows you to import real products from the internet into your mock-up, so after I uploaded everything into my design, I was able to see how much my table setting cost in total. The coolest part is that you could really do this with any element of your wedding.

Last but not least, make those decisions!

Lastly, I needed to choose furniture from local rental vendors for a specific lounge in the venue. It’s a gorgeous room with chandeliers, a pale pink ceiling, a mantle which will be draped with floral installations, plus a huge gold elegant mirror. I had a hard time finding furniture that would fit the vibe, so I mocked up several different options before I finally decided on this one pictured below. It’s elegant, royal, and pink—all the things I wanted!

If you’re planning on getting married soon, I have two pieces of advice for you: Take deep breaths and use Spoak.
