A swivel chair is a chair whose seat can be turned (or swiveled) by the base to face any direction. The base of a swivel chair can be 3-5 legs with wheels (looking at you office roller chairs), or it can be a flat recessed base that rotates the chair from a center column, possibly concealed by the rest of the chair.

For years, swivel chairs were found in offices as desk chairs, but recently have officially earned their place as accent chairs (especially if they have a concealed base). Accent swivel chairs are popular (and useful!) design elements in open concept living rooms to bridge two different seating areas. Or they can be found in front of a TV faced one way for easy viewing or another for conversing with the rest of the room.
